If you are looking for an alternative to those low-carb, low-fat, and low-calorie diet regimens out there, there is a new diet regimen out there known as the “shifting calories” method of weight loss.

Simply put, you lose weight on this diet by shifting the type of calories that you consume from meal to meal. This is in complete contrast to the more typical, “mainstream” diets in which you must reduce the number of carbohydrates you consume, or you count the number of calories or “points” that you consume, or you limit your intake of fats, sugars, or sodium.

Your body’s metabolism is what regulates the consumption of food into energy or what stores it as fat on your body. It also regulates the rate at which food is consumed, and is also responsible for tapping into your body’s fat stores to burn fat when it senses that your body is being malnourished, through either starvation or through a deficit in specific nutrients that it needs in order for your body to function properly.

The key to effective weight loss is to understand how your body’s metabolism works for you. Apart from the general awareness people have of what metabolism is and what it does, most of us are at the mercy of our metabolism and go through life entirely oblivious to the role it plays in our ability to stay fit, to lose weight, or to even gain weight.

Why is it that some people are able to eat huge meals every day and never seem to gain any weight? And why is it that some people only have to pig out once or twice, and they gain weight very quickly?

The answer is in your metabolism. Did you know that it is possible to manipulate your metabolism at will? All it requires is the knowledge of how your metabolism reacts to different kinds, quality, and quantity of foods. That is exactly what the science of the calorie shifting diet method is based upon: this ability to trigger the appropriate metabolic response in your system that induces weight loss, by the presence or absence of specific nutrients in your system.

So how do you follow this diet? There are only a few simple rules:

Generate a personalized meal plan that determines what each of your meals will be for the next 11 days.

Your personalized meal plan will require you to eat 4 full meals a day. You may eat any of those 4 meals in any order of the day, but those 4 meals must be eaten as one unit, as dictated by your diet plan. No substitutions or switching around of foods from meal to meal is allowed.

You may eat as much as you want of each of the foods at each meal until you are satisfied, but do not eat until you are too full. (Overeating is counterproductive to the weight loss process.)

You must space your meals out by at least 2.5 to 3 hours in between each.

You must take a 3-day break from the diet every 12th through 14th days on the diet, before you must generate a new 11-day diet plan and start it up again. During these 3 days, you must eat sensibly and work on maintaining your weight, but not overindulging, lest you gain some or all of the weight back.

While on this diet, you can expect to lose 9 pounds every 11 days.

Here are some sample meal plans that you would be following. The diet plan lasts for 11 days but only 3 days are included here, just to give you an idea of how the plan is structured and to give you a sense of how satisfying and sustainable this diet truly is. Keep in mind that each of these four meals may be eaten in any order throughout the day, as long as you only eat that the designated foods at each of their respective meals.

Day 1:

Meal #1: Flavored Oatmeal

Meal #2: Tuna Salad

Meal #3: Sandwich (any type)

Meal #3: Scrambled Eggs [and] Mixed Vegetables
