Why is staying awake while meditating important? Falling asleep is certainly relaxing, and can be good for you, but to get the full range of benefits from your meditation you need to have your brainwaves in the alpha and theta ranges. When you are asleep, your brainwaves range from theta to delta. Meditation should be a state of relaxed alertness (primarily alpha brainwaves). Try the following tips to stay awake. 1. Don’t lay down. Laying down may be the comfortable way to meditate, but it is also the surest way to have trouble staying awake. Find a comfortable posture for meditating, but not TOO comfortable.
Meditation usually keeps me in a very blissed out or peaceful state. Yet a few mornings ago I found myself swimming in negativity. It was the usual stuff - money problems, blaming others, and a whirlwind of thinking. I even had trouble starting the car. What the heck was going on? Then I realized what I had done the night before. I’d watched a dvd rental of the movie “The Interpreter”. By most standards the movie was fantastic. There was brilliant acting by academy award winners Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn.
Meditation is a common term and a common technique used to concentrate mind on studies, work or worship etc. Everybody has an experience on this. But when meditation is used to keep body and mind healthy, it has a deeper meaning. Again when it is used to realize the spiritual truth it has a still more deeper meaning.
One of the most difficult aspects of today’s society is the sheer mass of stress which most of us experience. It seems almost that everything conspires against good quality relaxation. In fact, the pace and demands of modern life seems to be an obstacle to many possibly good things. Our health would be better if we could exercise more. We would not have to worry so much about weight loss, aging, disease, ill health, and stress if we could only find a little more time. In time, which we don’t have much of anyway, we even begin to become stressed about all the stress we are under and our apparent lack of ability to do much about it!
I am sure you are eager to know about Yoga history. Where was it practiced the first time, when, how and its evolution, all until it spread worldwide and is practiced everywhere and by millions of people of different sexes, ages, and races. At first, we should know the meaning of the word Yoga. It is derived from the Sanskrit root Yog, and it means to bind or to join, as it unites the body, mind and soul.
There are many ways to improve the quality of your life, but one that you may not have thought of is that of meditation. Some don’t believe it can offer them benefits but there is one thing that meditation and yoga can definitely provide to you: the ability to relax. Yoga is a great tool for both exercise and relaxation. Both meditation and yoga have been shown to provide improvements for those that are in need of stress relief. And, when you learn how to do them effectively, it takes minutes a day to wash away your stresses.
There are things in life that one cannot escape from. For some of us, eczema seems to be on that list. This skin problem can be caused by many things such as allergy to food or cloth, an imbalance of fatty acids and even stress. My two daughters are already an example of eczema victims who get it because of different reasons. My eldest daughter gets it when she is stressed out. If there’s an upcoming exam that she knows she’s not well-prepared with, I can almost guarantee you that her anxiety will extend to her skin and a flare-up will soon be our problem again. My second daughter gets her eczema from food. You can expect a flare up extending to the skin on the face after a few hours of eating just a leg of chicken.
People across the world are turning towards meditation for good health of body and mind. Truely health and happiness lies within and not outside. As home is dear to everybody, inner self is the source of all peace, bliss and power. For this in meditation one meditates upon oneself. Meditator, meditation and meditated become one. In my earlier article ‘Meditation is a journey inwards’ I have described what is meditation. In this article I shall describe three methods of meditation.
One question that might arise concerning the concept of Active Meditation is; How can you advocate the idea of sitting quietly, attempting to find your center which would seem to be a state of being inactive and yet still call this active? There are only two things in the Universe that don’t move, the Infinite and the Observer. But, even these aspects of existence are not actually dormant because if they were there would truly be an absolute nothingness. Thus, as it says in the Gita, it is not really possible to sit and do nothing, nor should you endeavor to do so for a sustained period because if you were successful at reaching the ultimate goal of doing nothing you would cease to exist.
Meditation is a powerful tool used by millions of people worldwide as a method to reduce stress, increase spiritual growth and impact overall health and wellness. Unfortunately, there are many myths stigmatizing the art of meditation. Meditation is often thought of as a “clearing of the mind”. This could not be further from the truth. Meditation is also often associated with the chanting of religious mantras. This is only one type of meditation. There are many different types of meditation and most have no association with any form of organized religion. When performed regularly, meditation can be instrumental in centering one with their intended purpose and opening the mind to greater enlightenment. |
