The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES 1999-2002 survey) determined that approximately 65% of the U.S. adult population was either obese or overweight. This survey also indicated that an estimated 16% of children between the ages of 6 and 19 years are overweight. And, there is no doubt that obesity is on the rise in our country!

Why the upwards trend in obesity? As most of us are aware, Americans have fallen prey to high-fat, high-sugar, high-calorie diets (common in fast food restaurants). We?re typically eating way-y-y more calories each day than we need for our lifestyles! (But, oh! Those ?comfort? foods sure taste good and temporarily soothe our psyches, don?t they?!)

Are those extra inches round your waist leaving you sleepless? Has your last diet plan failed to solve your eternal problem - excess weight? Maybe you are not doing it right or expect results too fast.

Losing weight can be difficult at times because of misconceptions about food and how the metabolism really works. Many foods that we think are low in calorie are really not. We eat what we think is right, unaware of the hidden fat and calories. Losing weight can seem impossible if you’re not aware of hidden fat.

Your battle with weight might have begun in your childhood, as you attempted to find out how many cookies you can eat in one sitting. Or maybe it occurred around the time you step foot on college campus for the first time. Those late nights of studying might have led you to late-night binge eating sessions. Or maybe you gained a good amount of weight after the birth of your first child, and seemed to be stuck with it ever since. Regardless of the cause, weight gain is a serious matter. It affects your energy levels, your stamina, and your overall health. Obesity has been linked to numerous diseases, including heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.

You may be wondering, How can I possibly do resistance training with my dog? Well, here are a few exercises you can do with the aid of your faithful furry companion.

  • Leg raises - if you have a male dog, he’s probably already shown you how to do this one.

  • Abdominal crunches with a paw on your forehead - laying down on the floor and grunting in pain can cause your dog to do it’s own investigation to find out if you’re all right. The scratch marks across your forehead are simply a byproduct of that concern.

The answer to the title of this article is ?none.? That?s right, no diet plan on its own is very effective for permanent weight loss. You can stop reading right now and go look for another magic bullet or you can stick around and hear the hard truth.

Still here? Great! OK, the only method for achieving permanent weight loss is to combine a nutritionally balanced diet that consists of a calorie count slightly below what you need to maintain your present body weight along with regular exercise. I?m sure you?ve probably heard this a thousand times before, but like any simple truth that?s difficult to accept, it bears repeating. Dieting alone just isn?t going to cut it!

It was a popular myth in the old days that you can get warts from toads. Not true - now we know that’s bogus. Warts are actually benign tumors of the epidermis caused by a virus. The virus responsible is the human papillomavirus, a double-stranded DNA-virus. The virus resides in the bottom layer of the epidermis and replicates into almost normal-looking skin. Different sub-types of the human papillamavirus cause different types of warts. Some subtypes also cause cervical cancer and other more obscure types of wart-related cancers.

Most people are classically biased toward one of the three legs of the fitness triad: progressive resistance training, cardiovascular training or diet/nutrition. How many folks try and lose weight by dieting and dieting alone? A safe bet would be a majority of individuals. Ever wonder why people who lose a lot of bodyweight rapidly still look fat? It?s because they are still fat.

When the human organism perceives starvation it reverts to a primordial hardwiring that seeks to preserve body fat (the last line of defense against starvation) at all costs. So dieting alone can results in weight loss but when more muscle than body fat is lost as a result of crash dieting, the end result is not all that impressive.

In January a lot of people decide to go on a diet. This is not the only time of year that happens. A few months before summer (the bathing suit season) starts, many women decide to lose weight. There are so many diets around. It seems to me that too many of them are extreme diets: You cannot eat any carbs. You need to eat mainly protein. You can eat all the fats you want. I am afraid I do not go for any of these extreme diets. They are too radical. At first you are all excited and follow the diet. You might drop a few pounds quickly. Then the weight loss slows down and you lose your enthusiasm. Does that sound familiar?

    (*) Proper bodybuilding exercises technique.

First steps in muscle building training are easy. Spend the first few weeks in gym knowing the exercises. During the first few weeks of muscle building training, the muscles react to the stress put on them, even with relatively light weights, with important increase in strength and muscle tension.

(*) Train whole body on one workout.

Every major muscle group should be trained and developed to prevent muscle imbalance on muscle building training. The major muscle groups include legs, calves, chest, shoulders, back, arms and abdominals.
